A month of fabric scraps

I started sewing when I wrote my first blog post...last November. I remember ordering Japanese fabric from superbuzzy and spending some (!) money in a few fabric stores. After almost a year, I have a lot of fabric scraps and it's driving me crazy. So I decided that October would be a month of fabric scrap projects. The plan is obvious: make more room for new fabric!

Project n.1 - The patchwork bag
I saw this bag in blogland/Flickr and I immediatly fell in love with the idea. The concept is from a Japanese book that I don't have but with the help of a little tutorial I added another purse to my collection! Strangly enough, it's the only project that I could see myself doing a few time (5-10 bags) without getting bored.

So I will conclude this post with 3 questions:
1. Is it legal to sell/swap products made from a pattern book?
2. What value would you give to this bag?
3. Do you think that somebody would like a bag like this?

Thank you and if you have any ideas on how to use my fabric scrap, please, let me know!

10 weeks

I just started a sewing class at a community center. I didn't know but community center rhymes with omg-are-you-kidding-me-2$-an-hour-for-the-most-wonderful-teacher-ever!!!!! Obviously, it's a deal that I couldn't refuse. The teacher is a costume designer for tv productions, films and theater plays....and he wears high heels!!! Well, it was to be expected from a community center in the Montreal gay village! But that's a detail!

For the next 10 weeks, I have to bring pictures of designs that I like, create the patterns and sew until I get the teacher's approval ;) To start my creative process (um...and spending money process) I ordered a japanese book called Stylish Dress. Until I receive it, I need a project for the next class or two. I could maybe work on a little vest...something in tweed or in wool plaid!

You are doing what?

I don't know if you get the same reaction but when I tell people that I love to craft they always have that obvious "question mark" look like if I was a freak from another era! I must admit that except for scrapbooking (sorry but I don't really get it...why use so much paper!?!) and jewelery making the wonderful world of craft is pretty limited amongst Montrealers! However, after some research I discovered a few extremely talented people that live in a 25km radius from my little loft ;) One of those artists is Janick from Nea. She makes the most beautiful embroiderie "wall art". Ok, I'm slightly ashamed but I totally copied her idea and I made a cross stitch (friend: " you must be joking...my grand-mother does cross stitch!?!") bunny hoop frame. My plan is to make a few and gather them on a small wall...just like that! Do you like that idea?

Shutter sisters...well that's fun!

I don't write much about my 365 photo challenge because I want this blog to be about crafts. However, sometimes, it's ok to change the subject...just for a post! Well, I know that it's not a big deal or anything but today one of my pictures got chosen as the daily click on a wonderful photography blog called Shutter Sisters. I didn't know that blog until last week when I read about it from Jackie at Smoothpebble. So I decided to send them 3 of my "best" pictures and tah dah they picked my "omg, I'm so going to kill myself" picture!!! Ok, that's it, my next post will be about crafts...promess ;)

I wanna be a squirrel!!!

Today, when I was supposed to work from home and/or to take a well deserved nap, I started to play around with a little mouse softie pattern from Sewing Stars. The point of the exercise was to see how I could eventually transform it (the pattern) into a squirrel...my favorite rodent! So I'm asking you, creative crafters, to pppllleeeaaasssseeee give me technical advise on how to make this little rat (how come my mice always end up looking like rats???) into a "cute" squirrel! And if you wonder why my softie doesn't have a felt tail like on the pattern, well, I kinda forgot that part! To solve that little negligence, I wrapped wool aroung a metal wire and suck it up its...hum...you all know where a tail goes ;)

Have a lovely weekend!

70s Go-Go dancer

After the tweed vest disaster, a few weeks ago, I was now ready to tackle another sewing project. You know, one that comes in an envelop that contains difficult to work with sheets of thin brown silk paper! Anyway, I purchased McCall's 5555 (a mix of A and D) but it turned out that I looked like a 70s Go-Go dancer. So I "tried" to alter the sleeves, the back, the length, the neck line...well, too many things to call that pattern a success story! I must say that I start to feel a little discouraged about my ability to sew clothes. But good news! I will take a sewing class this fall and hopefully create something nice and one day...maybe one day...manage to make a dress out of an awesome japanese sewing book!
