10 weeks

I just started a sewing class at a community center. I didn't know but community center rhymes with omg-are-you-kidding-me-2$-an-hour-for-the-most-wonderful-teacher-ever!!!!! Obviously, it's a deal that I couldn't refuse. The teacher is a costume designer for tv productions, films and theater plays....and he wears high heels!!! Well, it was to be expected from a community center in the Montreal gay village! But that's a detail!

For the next 10 weeks, I have to bring pictures of designs that I like, create the patterns and sew until I get the teacher's approval ;) To start my creative process (um...and spending money process) I ordered a japanese book called Stylish Dress. Until I receive it, I need a project for the next class or two. I could maybe work on a little vest...something in tweed or in wool plaid!

Lucky, lucky you, Claudia!! This sounds absolutely wonderful...and the teacher - wouw!! Isn't he amazing and a great inspiration?

I can't wait to see what you make in the next 10 weeks. Hopefully you will not have to wear high heels while you are at the class sewing ;0))

You're kidding me? This is exactly the book I have been pondering about the last week! You must MUST let me now how it is in real life! And whether you can make your way through the Japanese instructions. I also saw you just ordered the year of mornings book too (another on my 'I really want' list) I am so jealous of you right now! Enjoy your sewing class.

I have that book, but I am totally intimidated by it (gorgeous though the images are). Hey, perhaps you can do a step by step sew along for me to copy. Because fab classes like yours are thin on the ground over here.

Oh my gosh! I can't wait to see what you create - I always think that your clothing/toys are amazing!! I also can't wait to hear how much fun the classes are!

I am green with envy. On my little island I don't have access to classes like that - it sounds incredible. I love the idea of creating your own patterns - and to get such an amazing teacher. I hope you enjoy every minute!

woohoo for you!
I learned to sew when I was nine at a treadle sewing machine(my Mom was amazingly patient...)and I'm not sure I would have the patience as an adult to learn, but it sounds like you have the dream teacher!
a wee suggestion, a fitted vest may not be the best first project for you, perhaps a loosely gathered top or tunic sort of thing would be better...or ignore me and just have a great time learning! :-)

That sounds so awesome. I really wish we had something like that going on where I live, but it's dudsville out here! I can't wait to see the process, it sounds very interesting.
