Sew japanese

Now that the felted acorn factory is getting ready to close down until next fall I can take time to finish a few personnal projects. I have 3 dresses that are waiting for help from my sewing teacher. I almost cried last week when he canceled the class for personnal reasons: "nnnnooooo!!! I want to sew!!! aaaaaaahhhhhhh!!!". I love making clothes but I lack a little bit of self-esteem. I think that it's going to be a New Year's resolution for 2009.

A few weeks ago I read a post on my Internet Godmother's blog (she wrote the first comment on my blog last year and she bought my first set of felted acorns last month) about how she only uses her Pay pal/Etsy money for fun stuff...not for grocery shopping or electricity bills. That's why I decided to buy Nani Iro's pattern book and 3 meters of her beautiful fabric to make the dress on the cover. Anybody ever worked with this gorgeous book...in japanese???

Hi Clo, I left a message on your flickr too but I am willing to help you out with reading the pattern. I have not used this pattern book but I have been reading Japanese patterns for longer than I care to admit. Just email me pictures of the instructions and I am most willing to help. One note of advice is that NO Japanese pattern books give you seam allowances. You need to look at the pictures and you will see numbers. The first time I looked and went okay and ignored them (my Japanese was way dodgy then as well...), I learnt the HARD way that that's what the numbers were for.... :D

Hooray for the acorn factory, especially if the fruits of your labour is that Japanese yumminess!

And to think, you nearly didn't open a shop. Tsk tsk. Now repeat after me, 'I CAN sew clothes, I CAN sew clothes...'

I haven't yet made anything from that book, but i do own it. i have a growing collection of japanese craft books that seems to get bigger faster than i can make the patterns in them. I'll be curious to see what you choose to do with that precious Nani Iro fabric. I made a top with the white version from the Stylish Dress Book and I adore it.
