me and Alice's mom

Yes, I'm now a mom and I live vicariously through my baby. However, you should know that I don't report Alice's bowel movements on my facebook profile everyday (do you also have "friends" who do stuff like that???).

When I got pregnant, I told myself that I would still be "me" and not only "Alice's mom". Well, it is not that obvious....especially when you have so much fun writing a motherhood blog. It is not necessarily a bad thing. It is just that sometimes I ask myself what I was doing before I got Alice!!! Very strange feeling. I think that I became so passionate about being a mother that I put aside my "other life".

Well, I decided to bring back a bit of the "old" Claudia once in a while on this blog. I hope that you don't mind!

So, this weekend I did a little bit of eco-friendly sewing and I'm very happy with the result. I had a bunny t-shirt (that I loved very much...maybe a bit too much) that was very beat up. It now lives in my living room...as a cushion. And since my fabric stash is very limited I used an old tea towel from my kitchen (for the back of the cushion)!

Yep, I think that I can easily be "me" and "Alice's mom" at the same time!

anneemall: What you wrote makes so much sense! Wow, thank you!

daniela: We have H&M in Montreal but the one downtown doesn't have baby clothes. Maybe if I get a ride to one of those big shopping centers I can find an H&M with that collection...that would be pretty cool!

haha, i saw a friend just yesterday who reported her child's bowel movements of the entire week prior! i can't handle it!
good for you for doing things un-baby-related. i started volunteering at a community garden (with my baby on my back) and it felt so good to do something for me!

The number of folks riveted by the bowel movements of anyone but themselves MUST be somewhat limited, no?

Top cushion!

Haha... yes, some "friends" can be a bit obnoxious. Love these cushions! And you can definitely be both you and Alice's mom. It's important not to lose that.

yes! I'm currently working on a list of things I shall try my best not to do when I'm a mum. Facebooking bowel movements is definitely one of them. For some supreme examples of obnoxious over-sharing parents have a look at http://stfuparents.tumblr.com/ (kinda offensive / kinda funny / kinda scary)

Really cute cushion, nice one!

I'm glad to hear you are not a mom like the ones found on here...

Oh, the identity issue!
I still refuse to change my profile picture in FB, it's what little I have left of my old identity, so there is no Olivia there, just me. Then again, I also have a mommyblog and that is where all my mother-related thoughts go to. I guess I am someone new now and I am quite loving it.
But you have to admit though! Alice's mom is pretty darn cool! :)

Am sure this post will strike a chord with many mamas out there...It must be hard to find the time (particularly at the beginning?) to bring back "the old you"...so good on you for making that a priority. I hope to do the same. x

It gives me an idea to note before becoming mother what I like doing today and I wouldn't like to become after.

And at the same time, I think it is a great opportunity to make a pause, to listen to yourself, to what you are now and what you want to be, without necessarily recreating yourself from the past.

I love your cushion! I'm happy "old" Claudia get's to come out a play sometimes because I think she's pretty awesome, not that Alice's mom isn't cool too.

Yes, my baby just turned 10 months and I'm still struggling with carving out a space for me. It's hard! Notonly is motherhood all-encompassing, but you kind of WANT it to be all-encompassing. Let me know if you figure out any tricks to giving the "old" you more room.

yes, very good for you. i've found that i haven't missed my old self very much yet (my little guy is almost 6 weeks old) but i hope that i'll be able to get back to my "old" self sometimes once i'm ready to. it certainly has been nice to devote myself to this boy for the past few weeks but i definitely don't want to lose myself to motherhood in the way i've seen a lot of women do. it'll happen when the time is right.
