and a good book : How to Raise an Amazing Child the Montessori Way

Until I took the time to learn more about Montessori (and Waldorf...more to come in another post) I used to get intimidated by this approach. Even now, I still find it a bit overwhelming (very active parenting style)...but maybe it is just me?

Going with my mom instincts is still my motto but, personally, I find that following certain principles (especially when they fit naturally into your regular lifestyle) makes things much more enjoyable.

I don't think that I will ever be a "hard core" Montessori follower (probably because I don't have any "real life" Montessori guidance...any Montessori moms in Montreal?) but I love to incorporate as many elements as possible in my family life.

Things I love about Montessori:
Freedom to learn
Orderly environment
Child friendly home (child size furniture and objects)
Discovering through the senses
Gaining independence (everyday living skills)
Beauty and harmony
Positive approach to discipline
Limited uses of television and computer
Visual stimulation, artwork, musical value and "beautiful" toys
...and so many little elements that are just freakin awesome!

Lately, we started to use a small "rug" to define Alice's work area when she chooses to play on the floor. This idea might be a bit strange but is very logical in a small living environment like our home.

Baby steps...or should I say toddler steps ;)

J'aime bien ces deux blogs Montessori :
aladouce.blogspot.fr (avec des conseils de lecture et des activités classées par âge)
bebeliv.blogspot.fr

Et concernant un tout autre sujet, as-tu lu cet article ?
http://joannagoddard.blogspot.fr/2012/02/motherhood-depression-and-weaning.html

Have you given any thought to the floor bed, Montessori style? I'm curious about whether it is okay to place a mattress directly on the floor or if you need to raise it with bed slats or something. I'm selling our crib which remains useless... and we're going to go with a bed on the floor idea. Do let me know your thoughts. PS: do you guys have a baby friendly cafe in HOMA?
