A few weeks ago, after a visit to the Botanical Garden...
Me: Alice, can you remove you winter suit please?
Alice: No Dodo (toddler talk for sleep in French)
Me: (smart ass me) On the carpet?
Alice: Dodo
Me: (smart ass me) Would you like me to pat your back while you sleep on the carpet?
Alice: Yes
Me: (smart ass me) But of course my love.
3 minutes later
Me: Dan, we have a "problem".
Dan: Should we let her sleep like that?
Me: I don't know...
You woke up 2.5 hours later!

One of my most important parenting lessons has been, if you literrally 'ask' them, they will literally answer!! Otherwise, don't give them the option!
I love this photo, it reminds me of a new year's party we went to and we let the kids stay up past midnight. As we adults were taking our time saying our goodbyes, the kids fell asleep in all their winter gear by the front door. Oops! A little parenting negligence now and then is good for the soul, I do believe :)
