At 11am...Keep Calm and Breastfeed

"More than 170 countries will take part in World Breastfeeding Week from October 1 to 7 to help raise awareness about the importance of breastfeeding as the norm for infant feeding around the globe. It is always held during the 40th week of the year, symbolic of the length of a normal term gestation, when breastfeeding would usually start." (Montreal University Health Centre)

Saturday at 11am, along with about 50 other mothers (and a few dad including Dan), I took part in a breastfeeding challenge at an adorable local breastfeeding store

As a newly trained breastfeeding godmother*, it was natural for me to participate in such an event...and because I love to be surrounded by happy babies and cheerful moms!

Happy World Breastfeeding Week!

* Breastfeeding godmothers (also called lactation godmothers or support mothers) are volunteer women who are breastfeeding or have breastfed their babies. They support women in their breastfeeding experience. They listen, offer information and respect their "god child's" choices and decisions.

In other words, moms (generally experiencing breastfeeding difficulties) are paired with a breastfeeding godmother and have one-on-one telephone support.

It is a pretty rad volunteer job (and even better since I also work for the organization as a godmothers coordinator)!

love that top photo of you two Claudia! And hmm, I need to see if this lovely-sounding organization exists in Boston! I would love to do that for someone.
